Removal and installation of the sensor of a reserve of fuel / fuel pump

At the BMW car of the 3rd series the sensor of a reserve of fuel is located in each chamber of a fuel tank. For check of sensors they need to be removed. In the sensor of the right chamber, at a look in the direction of the movement, there is a fuel pump. Therefore for removal of the pump it is necessary to remove the right sensor.

- Do not use naked flame near a workplace, do not smoke and do not hold any strongly warmed subjects. There is a danger of accident! Keep in readiness the fire extinguisher.
- Watch normal ventilation of a workplace. Fuel couples are poisonous.
- The fuel system is under pressure. When opening system fuel can escape under pressure. Collect fuel a rag. Use goggles.


 REMOVAL

Before removal of the fuel pump empty a fuel tank, having passed on the car. Works whenever possible should be carried out in the open air and at good ventilation. Also radial fan which electric motor is located outside an air stream can be used to ventilation of a workplace.

1 Disconnect a negative cable (-) of the battery at the switched-off ignition. The battery is in a luggage compartment behind a cover on the right side. At BMW 316i, 318i cars the battery settles down in a motive compartment.

As a result of shutdown of the battery data from memory of malfunctions of some monitors are erased. If necessary before shutdown of the battery it is necessary to consider these memories of malfunctions. Address to the Section Diagnostics of Malfunctions. Work it is desirable to carry out HUNDRED in conditions.

2 Remove a back seat, address to the Section Removal and installation of a back seat.

3 Remove a rubber epiploon-1-at the left or on the right under a seat. Cast away an insulating mat.

4 Unscrew screws of fastening and uncover-2-.

The right sensor with the fuel pump:

5 Rasstykuyte socket-1-. Thus release a clamp, having squeezed it.

6 Mark a tape fuel hoses-2-and-3-and disconnect them from the stock sensor for what open collars.

The fuel system is under pressure therefore remove a hose slowly and wipe the flowed-out fuel.

7 Carefully turn off in blows a cap nut-4-. HUNDRED are applied for this purpose by the BMW 161020 tool. It can be also carried out by means of wooden whetstone.

It is not necessary to use the metal tool since thus formation of sparks is possible.

8 Lift the stock sensor up, take him aside and take out. Thus enclose a rag and wipe the flowed-out fuel.

Left sensor of a stock:

9 Unscrew screws of fastening and uncover-2-.

10 Rasstykuyte stock sensor socket-1. Thus squeeze clamps.

11 Disconnect a fuel hose-2-from the stock sensor for what weaken a collar-2-.

The fuel system is under pressure therefore the hose needs to be removed slowly. If necessary wipe the flowed-out fuel.

12 Carefully turn off in blows a cap nut. HUNDRED are applied for this purpose by the BMW 161020 tool. It can be also carried out by means of wooden whetstone.

It is not necessary to use the metal tool since thus formation of sparks is possible.

13 Lift the stock sensor, take him aside and take out. Press from the lower party a clamp-1-and remove a leveling hose of a tank. Take out the sensor. Thus enclose a rag and wipe the flowed-out fuel.



 INSTALLATION

Surely replace sealing rings of sensors of a stock.

Left sensor of a stock:

14 Be convinced that the backpressure valve-1-is inserted into a leveling hose of a tank.

15 Insert the sensor and hold it about 5 cm above a tank. Fix the sensor in a groove on a tank.

16 Level the sensor, having turned it. Thus the pad in the top part of the sensor has to enter a tank groove.
17 Put on and tighten a cap nut. Thus the lock has to enter a pad the corresponding groove on a tank, having distinctly recorded.
18 Attach fuel hoses according to markings and fix them new collars.
19 Join shtekerny connections and record them.
20 Establish a cover and fix it, watching thus the correct provision of consolidation.
21 Insert a rubber epiploon into a cover. Put back an insulating mat.
22 Establish into place a back seat, address to the Section Removal and installation of a back seat.
23 Attach a negative cable (-) of the battery at the switched-off ignition. Establish hours.

24 Check work of the index of a reserve of fuel for dashboards.

If the fuel tank does not manage to be emptied in the course of the movement, it specifies that the tank equalizer between the right and left chambers incorrectly works. In this case it is necessary to remove at first the right sensor with the fuel pump. Then to remove the left sensor and to check, whether the leveling hose-1-in a settler-2-is recorded. After check install both sensors back.
