Adjustment of the parking brake

The parking brake is completely independent of working brakes of the car. Therefore wear of blocks of the parking brake is insignificant. As a result of corrosion of the brake drum or pollution of brake shoes the brake moment decreases. If old blocks are regulated, the parking brake has to be earned extra previously. For this purpose carefully tighten the parking brake at a speed of 40 km/h so that action of a brake was slightly felt.
Keeping movement speed, tighten a brake on one tooth and pass 400 more m. Release a brake and let's it be cooled. Thus the rust which can be formed on a frictional surface, and wear products is removed.

Adjustment of the parking brake is necessary at:

- To replacement of brake shoes
- To replacement of brake drums / back brake disks
- To installation back adjusting device.
- Too big way, passable lever of a brake (over 10 teeth).
- To replacement of a cable of the drive of a brake

Cables of the drive of the parking brake and all mobile elements of a brake have to have the easy course.


 ADJUSTMENT

1 Weaken on one bolt of fastening on each back wheel.
2 Lift and establish back part of the car on supports.

3 Uncover at the top of the lever of the parking brake-1-and take out it via the handle forward.

HUNDRED use the special BMW-341030 tool to adjustment of the parking brake. It represents two face keys being in each other which are established on two sizes: lock-nut and adjusting nut. If the specified tool existence is not present, it is necessary to remove the central console, address to the Section Removal and installation of the central console.


4 Weaken two lock-nuts and two adjusting screws (arrows on an illustration) cables of the drive of the parking brake. Completely weaken cables.

5 Completely turn out on one bolt of fastening on each back wheel. Turn a wheel so that the opening was vertically below. Light a small lamp in an opening, in it the adjusting nut has to be visible.

The wheel should not be removed as it is shown on an illustration.

6 Rotation of an adjusting nut-1 screw-driver-2-make so that blocks of the parking brake adjoined to a drum and the wheel could not rotate any more. After that turn an adjusting nut on 10 teeth back. If the adjusting nut on the left side of the car rotates in the direction of an arrow, brake shoes adjoin to a drum. On the right side the screw-driver rotates in an opposite direction.

7 After adjustment check, whether wheels freely rotate, if necessary turn off still adjusting nuts. Wheels have to rotate surely freely.
8 Adjust brake drive cables. For this purpose tighten the brake lever on four teeth and screw adjusting nuts on cables so that back wheels could rotate still evenly by hand. Release the lever of a brake and check, whether wheels freely rotate. If necessary repeat adjustment.
9 Completely release the brake lever.
10 Include ignition, the control bulb of the parking brake should not light up.
11 Tighten the brake lever on one tooth. Braking on back wheels should not be. Otherwise repeat adjustment of a brake. The control bulb of the parking brake can light up.
12 Tighten the brake lever on two teeth. The control bulb has to light up now. Otherwise as appropriate turn in contact of inclusion on the brake lever.
13 Switch off ignition.
14 Tighten lock-nuts, holding thus adjusting nuts.
15 Install the central console if it was removed, address to the Section Removal and installation of the central console.
16 Lower the car on wheels.
17 Screw two bolts of fastening on back wheels and tighten their moment 100 N • m.
